I will keep this diary short and sweet. The Republicans just lost some political capital with the stoppage of the Medicare Buy In. They had gained ground with the "too expensive" and "government run" rhetoric but squandered the opportunity when they blocked access to the largest population our country has, the boomers.
I knew several Republicans who were actually open to the idea of gaining access Medicare if the bill had passed. I am speaking in past tense as it appears this Monday night, the passage of the Medicare buy in may be scratched from the bill. Never the less the Republicans are now seriously looking like a bunch of obstructionists with trader Joe switching his postion once again. He wants healthcare reform but only if it serves to the benefit of the insurance industry and the drug industry.
We'll see how this plays out but I don't think that the Republicans look like the Grinches who just stole any chance of real health care reform. We'll see how it plays out. My gut tells me Leiberman just dug himself a hole.
How in the hell does that guys still have any type of chairmanship or power? WTF?
