Obama, Rahm Emmanual, and of course, even the right-wing, all saying we don't matter.
From hate-monger Moe at RedState:
I’ve been involved with the political blogosphere since 2002 or so, and the next time I see the left side of its leadership stand up to entrenched Democratic party interests over something important will be the first. Compare their usual wish list with what they get; and consider that examples of the discrepancy go all the way back to 2004, and John Kerry’s nomination. Put another way: if they swallowed heavily and accepted being betrayed on FISA/rendition/same-sex marriage, they’ll accept whatever monstrosity that the current ruling party comes up with with regard to health care rationing.
He's a nutball, to be sure, but he's absolutely right.
Our Democratic leaders have consistently come to us to deliver the votes, and blow us off when we want them to stick to their own Goddammed principles. I don't think it's asking too much...
But it says something about our movement that we cannot get ONE Senator to threaten noncloture for something as fundamental as getting rid of the fucking anti-trust exemption. WHAT is so radical about wanting competition from the insurance companies?? WHAT possible justification can their be for forcing monopolies??
I knew the PO would be a non-starter, but not even the lame trigger option? Forcing the mandates with no subsidies or government option? REALLY?
Where are the liberal Senators standing up for us? Obviously, the ONLY way to get anything you want in the bill is to threaten noncloture. Why couldn't Franken, Feingold, Leahy, Burris, somebody do that and demand the mandates be taken out, or the anti-trust exemption be taken out...
I busted my ass to get this SUPERmajority elected. The GOP got everything they wanted with a lot fewer people, but for some reason we need 99 Democratic Senators, and we would still be captilating to the remaining one. No threat of Reconciliation, and no threat of the nuclear option meant Reid set himself up for extortion from the DINOs at the beginning, and I'm tired of helplessly watching this go down while simultaneously being mocked by leaders in BOTH parties.
Well, you can take your party and shove it up your ass. One thing the conservatives and I agree on, 2010 is going to be a miserable year for you.
