If you closely at recent polls, you will see that support for Bush's war dropped in April/May/June of 2004 and then picked up after the RNC convention. I believe part of the reason for the drop in support was the publicity surrounding our country's torture of prisoners.
Then, IT DROPPED OFF THE FUCKING EARTH. It was like it never it happened. There was no more coverage. It was as if the media, our representatives and the American people no longer gave a shit (One exception: Bob Herbert from the New York Times).
Support for the war went up....
...and the rest is history.
We need to bring the media back to the torture that has been done in our name. We need to do it powerfully, and one of the most powerful things we can do is to publicize the images of torture. (One of the most successful things Cheney&Co did was to keep the torture pictures from being released.)
Well, the ACLU just won its FOIA case and the pics are about to be released.
It's high time the media shouldered its journalistic responsibility and published the pictures.
It's also high time we did something on our own.
Why not turn the rightwing sickos (Limbaugh et al.) idea on its head and design our own T-shirt? Wear it to educate your fellow Americans.
One idea comes from the most revolting, appalling and disturbing image of the hooded man on a box with the wires. Put it on the front of our T-shirt with the words: "Are you responsible?"
On the back, a world map with of the torture archipelago stretching from Gitmo to Abu Ghraib and including countries suspected of receiving rendered prisoners. The words: "What have we done?"
How about a dKos contest for the most provocative, most incisive T-Shirt? I know a T-Shirt manufacturer that could manufacture the winner if we have a place to sell them.
Design away.
