Why in this country do we screw over the poor so much? We make them go to war, live on their meager wages and some whine about giving them welfare. This whining is displayed though such examples as Ronald Reagan's "welfare queen", who collected a welfare check in her Cadillac. Well Mr. Reagan like always, was grossly wrong. Capitalism works the best because it leaves an opportunity for everyone. This opportunity has made our economy into the great power it is today. Society will always have classes and that is the way it should be. Yet, as of lateley, the poor have been trampled on and cannot get a break sometimes.
When their jobs go away, they have to go into the army to defend our country while the rich sit on their hands and support the war with smiles, champagne and the patriotic "can-do" spirit. It's no lie that the patriotic "can-do" spirit is a very good thing to always have but when the choice comes down to yachting off the coast of your private island or fighting and putting your life on the line for those very people that would not do it themselves, blind patriotic support no longer becomes relevant. What does become relevant is the patriotic support with the belief that all people can achieve a life for themselves in this country and not have to die for it. It is the belief that the
12.7% below the poverty line can be lifted up and given jobs and basic human needs. It's the belief that we can ditch taxcuts for the rich and distribute more to the needy. Its time for America to open her eyes, there is an obligation too be fulfilled and it would be foolish not too act on it. This is the America I believe in. This is why I'm a liberal Democrat.
