I choose little.
I've come around to the point where, if I were in Congress, I'd likely vote in favor the bill that we will get.
I am not, however, pleased with it or the way that the White House and the Democrats in Congress have performed.
We deserved better and the Republicans are not the reason why we didn't get better. Obama and Democrats could have done better if they had wanted to do so. Instead, they compromised to the point that the insurance and pharmaceutical industries comes out smelling like roses.
This is incrementalism at best and I agree with what Barack Obama said less than a year ago on Tavis Smiley's show when he stated that the people wanted more than incrementalism:
Obama: I think that what America wants desperately is change, and they want not incremental change, they want big change. Now they've got to have confidence. They won't vote for me just because it makes them feel good - well, let's have a Black person - any more than they'll vote for Hillary just to say, "Isn't it great that we finally got a woman?"
So yes, I now support passage of this bill. However, I have no intention of praising or rewarding the people who left us with a choice between this weak bill and nothing at all. I wont' be contributing my time or money to them either. I will look to support progressive opponents of them and I will continue to press for true healthcare reform.
