We have something like 4 diaries on the wreck list right now about Jane Hamsher. And that's all good and well, but it seems like we're starting to beat a dead horse (pardon the expression).
Inspired by this comment from ridemybike, I've decided to donate my diary to networking and job creation.
It's time for solutions, and Democrats are the solutions party.
In the comments below, I'd like to open up the forum and let people share thoughts, job openings, leads, and suggestions on how we can create new, sustainable jobs in 2010.
Please start your comment with the following:
WANTED: If you're looking for a job, share your ideal job, what you'd like to do, where you're looking to work, etc. Feel free to attach a resume.
JOB: If you have an opening, or you're aware of a job opportunity, post a comment with details and a link to the job opening.
POLICY: If you have a policy suggestion worth considering (e.g., green job creation, stimulus plan, tax cuts, etc.), share your idea for consideration and discussion.
SOLUTION: If you think you've got a personal solution (not a government policy, just an idea that might help job seekers), share your idea here.
DISCUSS: If you'd just like to propose an idea for discussion, do it here.
I'll try to pull some ideas out of the comments and highlight through the day. Can't moderate the diary all day but will keep checking in from time to time.
We're all sick of the status quo. But it's time to "be the change" for each other. We can't wait for the government to come up with the solution.
UPDATE: stevej reminds us of the Ning Community for Kossack Networking - a good resource that was born out of this same desire for solutions. It only takes a second to set up a ning ID.
UPDATE 2: JOB SEEKERS and POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS: If you're willing to share contact info, please do so in the comments. However, I also suggest that you update your contact info in your profile so that folks know how to reach you via Social Network, Email, etc. (h/t barbwires)
UPDATE 3: Great comment from Old Hippie Chick bears repeating:
For those of you rebels and loners without corporate ambitions and/or degrees, after about the umpteenth "unsatisfactory conclusion" to a salaried job, I reinvented myself into a Personal Assistant.
I know how to do literally many tens of things, from painting to pet care to hair to sewing alterations to other wacky and arcane skills. I'm 61 and I work for people older than me; they're 70s thru 90s and even 100s. I straighten, vac, grocery shop, drive to MD/appointments, hang Xmas decorations, replace light fixtures, do the wash, assist at parties, food prep, et cetera. Anything I can think of.
I'm not bragging on this, I'm offering the idea to anyone who's desperate enough to try it. You all know how to do other things. There's a market among those who can no longer do for themselves. Make a list of the stuff you know how to do, get some free* business cards (*U pay shipping, from vistaprint) and spread them around. Do all the free PR you can in the vicinity of your elders. They wish they had kids like me, but they don't, so they have to pay. I love them all dearly.
Also, averageyoungman reminds us that many of us are not full-time or part-time or unemployed, but fall into the "freelance" or "permalance" status. I didn't list this in the poll, but suspect that many of us are in this category. I consider myself a business owner with a series of gigs ... others might see themselves as full-time or unemployed while they're between gigs. Welcome more comments on this employment trend in the economy.
