While we've been distracted with judge filibusters and Medicare compromises, the Senate has
voted to give Bush powers to sanction Syria.
Basically, this seems to state unequivocally that Syria is a state sponsor of terrorism, and gives Bush pretty big powers to punish Syria because of it.
Does no one in the Senate remember that you can't give this administration carte blanche for anything?
I mean, perhaps they do have a point. I don't really believe they do, only because Bolton has been the one leading the charge against Syria. He's cried wolf once too often in the past, for my taste.
But even if they do, you need to be very very careful with this administration to make sure they don't overstep the intention of any legislation passed.
And meanwhile, the whole time I was reading this article, I kept thinking of Seymour Hersh's article in the New Yorker describing the efforts the Syrians made to really cooperate on tracking Al Qaeda.
