I consider myself an independent, but I registered republican to vote for Ron Paul in the 2008 Florida republican primary. I voted for Ron Paul because he is honest and he addressed issues that the other major party candidates didn't address. A couple of these issues are the US's empire around the world and the broken monetary system in the United States. I also agree with Ron Paul about civil liberties, NAFTA, and CAFTA.
Some people criticize Jane Hamsher for working with people other than democrats. One criticism is that it makes her lose credibility. To some people who are loyal to the democratic party no matter what they do, it probably does. However, to a lot of other people, she gains credibility by working with the other side on things they agree on. In fact, that's how I found out about Jane Hamsher's site A few months ago, Republican Ron Paul introduced a bill to audit the Federal Reserve. Fire Dog Lake supported the bill even though it was introduced by a republican because Jane Hamsher and other democrats agreed that the American people should know where the bailout money went. I've been reading Fire Dog Lake regularly. I've learned a lot from that site. I didn't realize how much influence the health insurance corporations had over congress. The fact that the bankers, the military industrial complex and the health insurance companies have so much influence over congress makes it necessary for people to work together when possible to turn the United States back into a government for the people, by the people instead of a government for the corporations by the corporations.
