Top of the page right now is a link to video of Sen. Baucus, the link states "DRUNK WITH POWER? TOP DEM SLURS ON SENATE FLOOR..." and leads to this:

Here is better video from the same floor speech, go to around 3:25 in.  While Baucus is stuttering all over himself, it is apparent that the slurring from the first video is caused by poor (or adjusted) audio.  Does Drudge do any fact checking?  I hate to defend Baucus, but this is just wrong.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Drudge, no surprise (0+ / 0-)

He's a joke.  It shows how low the primary wars got when the anti-Hillary crowd used Drudge to claim Hillary was spreading around photos of Obama in Muslim garb.

    •  Actually, Drudge is not the source (0+ / 0-)

      Drudge just links to it.

This video is now everywhere from Politico to the LA Times.

Personally, I'm not sure if Baucus is impaired or not - he could just be a really bad speaker, but that seems unlikely for a long time politician.

If he is impaired it could be alcohol or illegal drugs but it could just as easily be a medical condition or some kind of reaction to legitimate prescription drugs.

Of course, given the hassle he's going through now about nominating his girl friend for a government position it wouldn't be all that surprising if he's drinking a bit.

But I have to say, after watching/listening to this, I like Baucus just a little bit more/dislike him less. Drudge, no change.

and frankly, he always sounds like this.

he's just not that eloquent a speaker, but that's not unusual for members of congress.

obviously, druuuuuuuudge is making something out of, well, nothing.

    yeah, nothing!

and the usual DrudgeHorde swoops into the comments section spouting their Glenn Beck cliches about "revolution", "socialism", "European Style Health Care" and of course, Birth Certificates.

"European Style Health Care". No idea what the fuck they're talking about. None. I can't wait to lurk in Freeperland once Obama signs this thing. The pain! The agony!

Drudge? You really care what Drudge does? You really care what Drudge does to Bacus? Drudge can't do any more harm to Bacus than Bacus does to himself. If we are lucky, it might help make him unelectable!

Especially considering the abortion language, the final bill was to the right of Baucus's markup

When Baucus started his HCR negotiations, we could have faced this vote without Kennedy, Byrd, Franken and Specter...people need to remember that we still don't have a replacement for Kennedy and had the voting in the MA legislature gone differently we would DESPERATELY need all dems, 2 indies and a Republican

The WH told him to aggressively court Snowe, and Grassley may have turned out to be an asshat, but hindsight is 20/20...and Enzi? I bet many of you didn't know the blogosphere and regular news organizations had a republican from GEOGRIA! Sen. Isakson...weirder things have happened

And what "evil" did Baucus do? Negotiations, which I've been over, and the WH didn't pressure him to wrap it up until after it already became clear to him/conrad that they weren't going to get those votes...and the WH still wanted Baucus to court Snowe

Oh, and he wrote a bill that's more liberal than the one we have now

to go "i hate him for it!" is dumb...had he not taken his time, the media would be reporting that this was all rushed, instead of just hearing it as a oft-dismissed right wing talking point

Also, there is no reason to think Nelson would have voted for the bill at all in the summer, there's a good chance abortion would have destroyed the bill...only an intense lobbying effort over months was able to work

During the markup and senate floor speeches, i always thought he gave very understandable and clear remarks in defense of hcr...much like conrad...

its just so stupid to say "baucus is worse than lieberman" it's like comparing Al Capone to Meadow Soprano

    •  Max Baucus is a corporate tool. (5+ / 0-)

Take a poll of Democrats in Montana and you'll find out that we only vote for him out of expediency.  He's about as popular among Montana Democrats as Dick Cheney.

Obama said he wanted a bill to vote on by the end of the summer and it was Baucus who kept delaying and delaying his committee.  Baucus is a paid agent of the Insurance Lobby.  The Republicans don't even run an opposition candidate against Max because they know that nobody they nominate could do a better job than Baucus.

      •  as usual, thin on details (0+ / 0-)

i think basically any senator except Sanders has a laundry list of pro-corporate activity

Especially any Dem senator that has been around for 20+ years has deep deep ties to regional and state industries

give me a list of all these evil twisted things he's done from 1979 to guess is any list, if one can even be made...would be equal of former Senators like Al Gore

    •  Baucus.... (3+ / 0-)

....was the Republicans' Democratic front-man during Bush's tax cut debacle. Baucus was one of the few Democrats involved in the negotiations because the GOP knew he was pliable and would give them a front of bipartisanship.

....on CSPAN the other day, pissed off at the GOP. I figure the GOP's continual nastiness even managed to piss off the normally very friendly (and pliable) Baucus. If they've lost Baucus, they've really gone over the edge.
