Sparks not running for Congress
Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks (D) will not be dropping out of the governor’s race to challenge party-switching Rep. Parker Griffith (R-Ala.), according to a senior Democratic source, depriving House Democrats of their leading recruit.
He will be making the announcement at 11 a.m.Tuesday in Huntsville and will then continue barnstorming across the state for his gubernatorial campaign, where he is challenging Rep. Artur Davis in the Democratic primary.
Sparks held a press conference outside the Madison County Courthouse, where he said there was "never a point" where he considered running for the seat currently held by Griffith.
"We are more committed now than ever to run for governor of the state of Alabama," Sparks said.
