Listening to Eugene Robinson on Olberman talking about the newest despicable commentary from Cheney, I thought, now here is something we can ALL take on together, whatever our views on the politics of the moment. Robinson also wrote up a piece that is posted on truthdig.com addressing the reemergence of the ex-veep. Cheney used politco.com to make another false and slimy accusation against Obama after the Christmas day terror attempt. Rather than condemning the attack, he condemned the administration.
Cheney's constant reappearance is disturbing beyond measure. The lies he spews are utterly repulsive when it is the Bush/Cheney administration who lied to the American people in the wake of 9/11 and then did so little to protect us from that attack.
Dick conveniently ignores that the Richard Reed shoe bomber attack occurred under the Bush watch. Dick complains that the Obama administration plans to try the newest attacker in the criminal justice system, while Reed was tried in the U.S. and is now indefinitely jailed in Boston. Republicans are gleefully backing Cheney, some calling to send the newest attacker to Gitmo.
Eugene Robinson pointed out that Cheney seemed to be trying to "provide talking points for opponents of the Obama administration who...would exploit the Christmas Day terrorist attack for political gain. Cheney’s broadside opens with a big lie, which he then repeats throughout." Robinson also says:
“As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war,” Cheney begins.
Flat-out untrue.

The fact is that Obama has said many times that we are at war against terrorists. He said it as a candidate. He said it in his inaugural address: “Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred.” He has said it since.
The ex-veep is bitter, a liar and unpatriotic. How very sad for our country that we are made to endure regular tirades on the part of this twisted man who has no sense of honor, and who is unable to maintain some control and dignity towards the new administration that the country overwhelmingly voted for.
When we allow a bully to take control of the conversation we are giving power to him. We are allowing this horrid man to conrol the conversation and to prop up republican attacks against the Obama administration. Whether you agree with him or not, this president is going back to the origins of the fight in Afghanistan which Bush/Cheney ignored and then proceeded to lie us into a war of their choosing. If you are a democrat or progressive, are you outraged?
Can we fight back together on this? I hope so.
(Lets write/call the congress -- the dems in order to push them to respond to this idiocy; the rethugs to call them on their game).
