Only 53% of adults know how long it takes for the Earth to revolve around the Sun. Only 59% of adults know that the earliest humans and dinosaurs did not live at the same time. Only 47% of adults can roughly approximate the percent of the Earth's surface that is covered with water.* Only 21% of adults answered all three questions correctly. Knowledge about some key scientific issues is also low. Despite the fact that access to fresh water is likely to be one of the most pressing environmental issues over the coming years, less than 1% of U.S. adults know what percent of the planet's water is fresh (the correct answer is 3%). Nearly half didn't even hazard a guess. Additionally, 40% of U.S. adults say they are "not at all knowledgeable" about sustainability.

I didn't know that fresh water covers just 3 percent of the earth's surface, though I knew it was a tiny amount. And I thought 75 percent of the earth's surface was covered with water, but it's 70.8 percent. I wonder if that qualifies as "roughly approximate the percentage".
Tentatively titled "Decision Points," the book is scheduled to be published in 2010. According to Robert B. Barnett, the Washington lawyer who negotiated the deal with Crown on Mr. Bush’s behalf, the book will also cover Mr. Bush’s decisions relating to September 11, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Barnett said Mr. Bush would also write about why he ran for president, his decision to quit drinking, his discovery of religious faith and his relationships with his parents, wife and siblings.
Although Obama did not pick very many upsets, just about every time he did it tended to favor the team from the swingier state. With that said, there are a couple of upsets that Obama could have reasonably picked but didn't, such as #3-seeded Missouri over #2-seeded Memphis or #2-seeded Michigan State over top seed Louisville. But yes: the President does appear to have been mixing his hoops with his politics.

If so, then well played Barack.
