What I admire in Terry McAuliffe
One of the first public figures I have tracked with any measure of time commitment is Terry McAuliffe. I met his wife and McAuliffe at a Connolly fundraiser and found them a most engaging, gracious and down to earth couple. I then invested the time to read his book "What a Party" and discovered that he is a very ordinary person of humble beginnings, who has achieved great heights - the true, living American Dream that hard work, integrity and a positive attitude can take one places.
Since then, I have been watching McAuliffe as he developed his campaign for Virginia Governor and how he conducts himself. Until today, he has not criticized his opponents. This clean approach to politics appeals to me and I know there are many in the United States who follow this path.
My goal is that as a community our members should start similar diaries on the clean politics of all the Democratic candidates in the United States and we can bring in a movement that promotes candidates on their strengths and achievements, rather than on the weaknesses of the opposition.
The positive energy we generate will keep the United States as the best place in the world and it will be thanks to YOU.
What I admire in Terry McAuliffe
Through out his life in politics, McAuliffe has never criticized any Democratic candidate. He has been objective in his support, supporting the candidates most likely to win. He has applied a strong business principle - Do not throw good money after bad.
He has gone hammer and tongs after Republican candidates - criticizing them at every opportunity and challenging them on their failures. He has seldom (if not never) hit below the belt, or strayed from being objective.
With a little review, some work and staying the course, McAuliffe will set the standards for clean politics in the United States and I believe the more Democratic candidates follow this example, the more successful their campaigns will become.
