Just finished
Nero Wolfe: The Last Coincidence by Robert Gainsborough. Not Rex Stout, but pretty good.
Radio Freefall It's about 50 years from now. Some cities are uninhabitable. The moon is colonized. The internet dominates everything, and a megalomaniac wants to rule the world .... and it's up to a computer genius and a bunch of musicians to stop him. Good fun.
Now reading
Godel, Escher, Bach: An eternal golden braid by Douglas Hofstadter. I am doing a series here on this book. Wonderful.
A History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russell. A fantastic survey by a hero of mine.
Permutation, parametric, and bootstrap tests of hypotheses by Phillip Good. It's good, but not for the novice.
Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zin. About meditation. I've been stressed.
Insights into game theory by Gura and Maschler. Fascinating 'verbal mathematics'.
and, on the lighter side
To Kingdom Come by Will Thomas. A mystery set in Victorian England, featuring a master detective and his assistant ... but different from Sherlock Holmes. This is the second in the series, and it's really good. You might want to read the first one first, that's Some Danger Involved
Nothing to Lose by Lee Child. The latest Jack Reacher novel. Reacher is sort of like a modern day Lone Ranger .... he travels very very light, he's enormously competent and confident, and he rights wrongs. No Tonto, though.
