Former Ohio Representative (and Bush OMB Director, and US Trade Representative) Rob Portman has brought in plenty of coin over the first quarter, enough to make jaws drop around the state.
The Republican former congressman and Bush administration official from Cincinnati will announce today that he's raised more than $1.7 million this quarter and has more than $3 million in his campaign account. He is not facing major opposition in the primary yet.
By comparison, Democrat Lee Fisher raised $1.1 million, and his campaign is apparently confident that that outpaces the total of fellow Democrat Jennifer Brunner.
Fortunately, both Fisher and Brunner lead in polling:
Quinnipiac. 3/10-14. Registered voters. MoE 4%. (1/29-2/2)
Lee Fisher (D) 41
Rob Portman (R) 33
Jennifer Brunner (D) 39
Rob Portman (R) 34
Portman has a ton of money and a clear primary, so let no one be under the illusion that winning this race will be easy.
