Newshounds posted a very interesting article about an interview that Alan Colmes had with Howard Dean when the DNC had its spring meeting in New Orleans. I am gathering this is the first time it has aired. The DNC said it would air that night it was taped, April 21, but it did not air then.
Instead it aired June 2 according to the Newshounds website.
It was an interview done while Dean, DNC members, and ACORN members worked in a house on the lower 9th ward. I may be wrong, but Newshounds does not seem to be aware this interview was that old.
There are many pictures of this event linked from the DNC website to Democratic Flickr. Here is just one.
Here is the good write-up from Newshounds.
Sean Hannity attacks Dean for helping Lower 9th Ward
Howard Dean:"If we were in charge, we'd have the National Guard in here, with an enormous amount of federal support. We'd have a FEMA that actually works for people and we'd be restoring all this. Look, it's not rocket science to do this. You need organization, you need resources, but mostly what you need are organization. You know, you cannot blame the local and the state for this. This is so big. This is the equivalent of the San Francisco fire a hundred years ago. When something like this happens, the buck stops with the federal government. We simply need a federal government that's competent and qualified so this kind of stuff doesn't happen again. We can't stop hurricanes, Alan, but we can sure clean up after them better than this."
Colmes brought up how much of our resources are tied up in Iraq. Dean refused to comment, calling that "just a political line. I'm not going to stoop to that. This is a tragedy."
Apparently Hannity refused to allow Colmes to tell about what he saw there or express his concerns, and he further attacked Dean for being there.
Hannity turned away from Colmes and cut him off. "Photo op," the bullyboy voice said..
During the final portion of the show, Colmes brought it up again. "By the way, it was not a photo op. You know what would have made a photo op for Howard Dean? If he had said `Mission Accomplished.' Then, he would have had a photo op."
Airing it 6 weeks later? And being rude on top of it. I am glad Colmes tried to speak up to Hannity on this issue. I am thankful Newshounds caught this.
