I've been thinking about all this nonsense about not closing Gitmo because we don't want the terrorists on U.S. soil because...I don't know, they might escape...or something. Where would we put them? Almost certainly they would go to the only federal supermax prision we have. This is where the most dangerous prisoners in the country are kept, a 21st century Alcatraz. It's the United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum, or ADX. There is a special wing for terrorists called H-unit, where 40 convicted terrorists are kept, including Zacarias Moussaoui, who wanted to be one of the 9/11 hijackers, and Wadih El Hage, Osama bin Laden's former private secretary. Other terrorists in Supermax include Ramzi Yousef, convicted of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and the shoe bomber Richard Reid.

Inmates spend 23 hours a day in their 7x12 cells. They get one hour of exercise a day in a one person exercise yard, if they behave. Their cells have one window that looks out on a brick wall. All meals and showers are taken in their cell. They get one monitored 15 minute phone call a month. If inmates cause problems, there is "Range 13", a sort of superduper max cellblock where inmates have no human contact. A former warden called the prison "A clean verson of Hell." If we put 'em in this sucker, they ain't goin' nowhere.
