DK4 development is proceeding nicely, still looking at early Q4 as release date. But we've hit a snag on a key nomenclature issue.
The new Daily Kos will allow people to follow their favorite diarists, thus keeping up with all their work on the site. This "friending" concept will be key to the social fabric of the new site -- the more people follow you, the more your stuff will be read, the more likely it is to make the "recommended diaries" box, the more likely you can be a site big shot.
So it's kind of like "friending" someone on Facebook, but not quite, since it's not reciprocal. On Facebook, both parties have to agree to be friends. On DK4, you won't need anyone's permission to follow your favorite diarists.
So what the f' do we call it? The design team working on our new user interface had some suggestions:
Favorite (as in your "designate as a favorite author", or "designate as a favorite person")
Colleague
Peer
Friend (what Facebook uses)
Ally
Follower (what Twitter uses)
I have to say, none of these are really hitting the spot, and a look at a thesaurus wasn't that helpful. So we're turning to you guys for suggestions.
Think how you would like the site to describe your relationship to your favorite diarists. Do you follow Bondad, or do you friend him, or do you make him a favorite, or what? Give it some thought and kick in some ideas. We're stumped.
