Neda Agha Soltan was gunned down by Basiji volunteer militia as she and fellow Iranian students attended protests Saturday in Iran. Incase you missed the horror that democracy seeking Iranian students faced over the weekend, and are sure to experience in the days ahead, here's one name you should know.
Neda
According to entries on Twitter, Neda, a young, fresh, innocent 26 year old who's name means "voice", has become not only the voice but the haunting face of the call for reform in her country.
Warning. The video below is graphic and depicts her last moments of life. Her eyes afix as her lungs fill with blood and the peals of grief can be heard by her father off camera.
Remember the National Guard and Kent State? This is conservative politics in action, that any show of dissent against power must be treated as a threat and put down even through random acts of murder.
It's time for reform all over the world. And the republican conservatives call for violence against Iran in this country is an indication that this pugnacious and deadly point of view is a curse in every corner of the world.
Support change in Iran. But also support reform that brings to a swift end to conservative hatred of freedom and violence wherever it rears its evil head.
A general and unlimited strike has been called for tomorrow in Iran. This is sure to enrage the angry conservative Iranian regime. Keep your thoughts with those fighting to end conservatism and religious fundamentalism everwhere.
