Sometimes the 24 hour news cycle is a pain in the butt. And sometimes it seems as if the news comes so fast you can't keep up with it.
The latter has been true over the past few days as we tried to figure out Where in the World Mark Sanford might be. Though, more accurately, it started out Where in the South. What we didn't realize was just how far South it would turn out to be...
Last night, our own nonnie9999 posted a trio of reimagined images of the missing governor of South Carolina, and wrote more about it on her own blog. The post, especially the first image
inspired a few lines of parody from your humble servant...but it's woefully out of date. So, if you'll jump with me below the fold, there's more: more lines, more parody, and more from nonnie9999. See you there!
I'm a fan of a cappella music, so when I see "Where in the World" I immediately think of Rockapella's hit, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego"—Rockapella was the house band for the PBS children's series, and sing the song live at just about every concert they do. This version, however, is from one of their CDs; I picked it because Sean Altman sings lead, and he co-wrote the song:
Just imagine these words to it:
Well he sneaks around the South from Columbia to Atlanta,
He's a rigid hard-line pol upsetting stimulus accord,
They claim he hikes the Trail, writing lists for secret Santa
Tell me, where in the world is Governor Mark Sanford.
He'll withhold funds from Florence, and make Myrtle Beach cry "Uncle,"
From Medicaid to Schools he's got them singing the blues
He's taken green from Greenville, he won't cover a carbuncle
Tell me, where in the world is Governor Mark Sanford.
He goes from San Juan to Salta, Chubut to Córdoba,
From Charlestown to Tierra del Fuego and back!
Well he'll ransack stacks of food stamps, run a scam in Escondido
Then he'll stick it in Down Under and miss Father's Day above,
He put the cut in cutback for his state, but not in his libido
Tell me, where in the world is Governor Mark Sanford.
Oh, tell me, where in the world is...tell me, where can he be?
Mendoza to Goya, Belén via La Rioja, Cachi to Tanti, Olivos, oh no!
Well he glides around the globe, and he flim-flams each reporter,
He's a double-dealing devo with no taste for chivalry,
His presidential hopes have cratered in the second quarter,
Tell me where in the world is Governor Mark Sanford.
Where in the world is Governor Mark Sanford...
Where in the world is Governor Mark Sanford: Damn, he's back!
Wonderful image by nonnie9999, who fortunately used Buenos Aires in hers, since I couldn't get it to scan in mine. Thanks, nonnie!

Many thanks to the many Kossacks who took time out from Sanford searching to read, see, appreciate, and sent their nominations to our gmail address before the 9:30pm Eastern Time deadline—especially that last step! The actual address of our mailbox for top comments submissions is:
TopComments AT gmail DOT com
(change " AT " to "@" and " DOT " to ".")
Anyone can send great comments to our address. Be sure to include the direct link to a comment—the URL—which is available from that comment's date/time; we need that to find your choice. Please always include your Daily Kos user name in the body of your message, so we can credit you properly. As I say every time, both link and username are important. If you also include a writeup, we can include that, too, though we reserve the right to edit if necessary; should you only provide the link, then you have to take whatever writeup we create...and we can be quite creative.
From Wee Mama:
This comment by limpidglass offers judicious insight into whether women would rule better than men, and the comment below it by IreGyre is funny meta-commentary. From JekyllnHyde's diary Is the Era of Male Domination About to End?
What was the old line about defining deviance down? The Republicans give it a new meaning, as phenry notes.
From pattyp:
The Mark Sanford/Argentina drama gets the Andrew Lloyd Webber treatment from prodigal. SantaFeMarie joins the fun, in abridged form.
I suspect this whole diary discussion will eventually devolve into a rewrite of the classic musical. LOL.
From arielle:
Cartoon Peril posted this in JeffLieber's Liveblogging the Appalachian Trail!, and I just couldn't stop laughing!

On a completely different matter, The BBQ Chicken Madness takes a look at President Obama's press conference in a way the self-centered media seems incapable of doing.
