Day 165, Ride for Freedom, Across the US by horseback for Akha Human Rights.
New Mexico is a splendid vastness, cowboys, wire fences, and a panorama of weather, mountains, plains and even the Very Large Array Radio Telescope at Datil.
We head for Socorro, New Mexico before heading for Roswell and Texas. Can't wait to get to Texas, a bit of Dallas.
Very glad to be out of Arizona, we continue to hand out cards and tell anyone who will listen about the Akha people and the situations they face in Thailand.
New Mexico is long days, vast distances, where you can see twenty miles of road stretch out in front of you like it was only two miles long, but sorry, you won't cross that hill down there for another many hours.
In the plain of St. Agustin we saw many antelope, were amazed to see the great dishes change position all at once, and of course Michu and the kids got a great tour of the facility, very worth it for the 4 miles turn down the road 52.
Quite a flurry around here about wolves being re-introduced, dead livestock and just making people nervous. Late last night as I rode over the mountains to Magdalena, I could hear the coyotes following us, a bit glad it wasn't something larger.
Have you heard of the Child Protection Compact Act of 2009?

What concerns us is that we saw this bill while checking out what some of the YWAM people in Thailand were up to on Twitter. Already orgs in Thailand take Akha children based on what THEY decide is risk, and certainly there would be concern if this is accelerated with federal funds. Just one more neo-colonialism.
