Heres my blow by blow
Howard was booked at a symposium at Yale tonight as the featured speaker on the subject of the media and the election of 2004.He took the floor at about 7:45 in front of a crowd of about 300 in a standing room only crowd.Well over 300 were turned away because the venue wasn't able to handle them.
Dean was greated with a standind ovation and at least 35 Dean for America placards some enterprising Deaniac had pulled out of the trunk of his car (me) because he couldn't bring himself to throw them away(at $2.50 a pop how could I,I'm cheaper than Dean)
More ater the jump.
Howard started off with a great imitation of "the scream" which brought another huge round of applause and then got down to buisness.
1)the Media didn't make or break his campaign. The strategy employed was all in in Iowa and whomever won there was going to win the nomination.Thats the way the contest was set up by the DNC and to not play there (Clark) was to have no chance to win.
- Fox is not a news network but a propaganda tool of the republican party .To prove this you only have to look at the study of what people who watch Fox as their primary sorce of news still believe is true.
- unfortunately the success of Fox has caused all the other cable networks to mimic it and since there is only enough news to do 3 hrs of progamming a day on news the cable networks now have turned to entertainment as news. The Monica coverage proved this to be both cheap and very profitable and since the bottom line is what the corperate owners really care about this is what we see.
The solution to this is reregulation, one TV station ownership in any market and the reintroduction of the fairness doctrine in law.
4)THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE DNC.
He hasn't made up his mind yet whether or not to seek it.If he seeks it and is rebuffed by the party the 700,000 people still members of Democracy for America may get discouraged and walk away in disgust. The party must reform but he hasn't decided if the best use of his energies is from the outside or the inside.( This is the way I read what he said-Howard doesn't have the 211 votes needed yet and will let us know if and when he does.
There was much more and I'm sure some very bright young Yalie will write something in the Yale daily tommorow that will show just how ignorant I am but Hey, I was very lucky to get out of high school.
