As I'm writing this I see several ads on the dKos main page that seem rather incongruous -- a couple of anti-reform ads from Club for Growth, another couple from Congressman Joe Wilson asking for campaign contributions and one from the NRSC asking us to stop Alexi Giannoulias. My first reaction was "WTF?!?" and I even started composing an email to Markos himself about them.
And then it occurred to me -- all of these ads are coming from Google. Pay per click ads, where Daily Kos will get paid by those advertisers for each click-through to their website.
So, rather than ranting about the existence of such offensive ads on dKos, I am instead encouraging everyone here to click on those ads. What better way to help defray the costs of maintaining this site than with money from the boneheads on the right!
Just be sure to shower afterward.
Update: josephk brought up a good point -- how do we know this is pay-per-click?
From Google's AdSense page:
Display targeted Google ads on your website's content pages and earn from valid clicks or impressions.
Update 2: As itzik shpitzik points out, you can subscribe for $40/yr or $4/mo and turn the ads off, and if you can, please do! And I should also say, many of the non-offensive ads are worthy of a click as well.
My point in this diary was to say if our political foes are willing to fund this site, let's help them do it!
