This diary is, obviously, in response to one currently on the rec list. The email sent by Pelosi's spokesperson to the Politico Huddle was NOT in response to anything about a deal with the Blue Dogs.
Pelosi never made any deals with them, anyway; they were negotiating with committee chairs. If you Google "blue dogs pelosi," this is what most articles will report - that the Blue Dogs wrangled concessions out of committee chairs and Pelosi basically said "that's nice."
Anyhoo, follow me below the fold and I will walk you through the referential maze.
In today's Politico Huddle, they mention that they received the cited Pelosi email late last night.
So the Pelosi email had to be in response to something Politico posted 9/22 or earlier. The only thing the Politico Huddle posted about Pelosi yesterday (the same day Pelosi's camp said nothing was final in the 9/22 Hill article) was this:
PELOSI PREDICTION: Bill passage within weeks, as Mike Soraghan reports in The Hill: "Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to make final decisions this week on the health-care reform bill that will hit the House floor, but some centrists in the lower chamber want her to hold off until the Senate Finance Committee acts.
"Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) push to decide issues like how to pay for the bill and the shape of the "public option" means that this week will be crucial for healthcare in both chambers. During an event in Philadelphia on Monday, Pelosi said the House will pass a healthcare reform bill "within weeks."
That Hill article is dated 9/21 and its only mention of Blue Dogs is how they want a more centrist bill and that they struck deals with committee chairs, not Pelosi.
So the Pelosi email containing "It is inaccurate for anyone to assert that the Speaker or the Leadership has determined the form of the public option" is in direct response to the 9/21 Hill piece about Pelosi wanting a bill within weeks, etc. The email has nothing whatsoever to do with any deals involving Blue Dogs, real or imaginary. The Politico Huddle doesn't even cite or reference the 9/22 Hill article about Pelosi reneging on the Blue Dogs in any post. Not once.
There was no deal with the Blue Dogs, Pelosi didn't reneg on anything and her camp is not today denying said non-existant reneging.
