Through a chain of acquaintances irrelevant here I ended up assisting at a gun show yesterday in Manchester, NH. Not my normal venue. And of course not expected to be a bunch of Obama fans -- the local Republican Party had a booth and several others were selling bumper stickers.
But I didn't expect to see such blatant racism on display... as this:
Sorry for the moderate quality image -- no cameras were allowed, so I had to be somewhat discreet.
Now, admittedly NH is not the shining star of diversity that some other states are; the state is 95.5% white. But you may know we have two (out of two) Democratic House members, and a Democratic Senator. Not to say there aren't serious right-wingers around, but there's also been significant progressive movement as well. So seeing this image on display -- hell, on sale -- was jarring.
Lots of people were laughing at it, pointing it out to their friends. The one black man who came through (of the many thousands who attended that day -- I never saw such a sea of homogenetic people) clearly wasn't thrilled but didn't say anything. Probably wise under the circumstances.
Guess I have little to add... other than, "Right. Now go ahead and tell me about how you just disagree with his policies."
