When it’s Pat Buchanan who is sounding reasonable in the matter of race could probably be seen as a good indicator that attempting to create a racial controversy will only blow up in your face.....i.e. Morning Joe and Michael Steele.
The Morning was set... Joe Scarborough had his talking points ready, the word of the day "NEGRO" ... Harry Reid said the word "Negro" and now he should resign...
Hey everyone, did you hear, Harry Reid said the word "Negro" when he stated privately that it was an advantage for then-candidate Obama to be
"light-skinned" and "with no Negro dialect."
And so this morning Mr. Scarborough wanted us to believe that he cares about the sensitivity of the African American Community... That thought is not only ridiculous but also laughable.... The GOP concerned about race? The Racial Profiling GOP, who can’t even stomach that they have an African American RNC Chairman, now would like for us to believe they are outrage by this so called "Negro Dialect Statement".... Oh here is a controversy where the RNC believes that Michael Steele won’t embarrass them on but think again my friends.....
Along with being outrage Mr. Scarborough's next statement would probably be some of his best friends are black; Ha! I’m sorry but the Opportunist State Jumping Corporatist Harold Ford doesn’t count. And although he started off toting your talking points at the beginning of your show when enough support enters the arena, Jonathan Capeheart eventually abandons your strategy as well...
So who did you have on call to back your ridiculous tactic, Willie Geist, Awe but Willie is no fool, he actually does have friends who are black... So who could Mr. Scarborough turn to for backing, oh yeah, why not the always reliable racial controversial Pat Buchanan.
But a funny thing happened on the way to Ball Park:
My morning was made watching Joe Scarborough get slapped around by Sharpton...Dean...O'Donnell while attempting to compare Senator Harry Reid’s Comments to Trent Lott's
Before I begin with the Slap Down section, I must set the stage with Jonathan Capeheart the ambassador to the race on the set
"What Harry Reid said was ignorant, it was insensitive but we all know that what he said was true, that we have a history in this country of some of the first African Americans elected to anything were all pretty much light skinned people. When Pat and I were talking about it off air about "Negro Dialect", we know what Harry Reid is talking about unfortunately who uses the word "NEGRO" since 1950 1960 whatever"
... Sharpton,
"Negro Dialect" I don’t know the definition, when I talked to Senator Reid Saturday I told him I thought the term was offensive, I agree with Mr. Capeheart it’s a term not been used half my life other than on the present Census form, I might add, and I don’t know what it is on the Census for but I think that it’s offensive but I think as always Joe the Republicans over shot the runway to compare that to Trent Lott, to compare a man making a political insensitive analysis why he thinks Senator Obama who he was supporting would be more acceptable to some voters to somebody musing on whether things would have been better under a Segregationist President is a leap that undermines the stand the republicans could have taken..."
Michael Steele (he can’t even get this right) and he "Sharpton" doesn’t know anyone who would have made that outrageous comparison... at this point Mika realized Scarborough was losing the fight and stepped in to try to help Scarborough out, bless her heart "she failed"
I couldn’t leave this Sharpton Slap Down without quoting this
"I Can’t believe the Chairman of the Draft Harold Ford Committee, Joe Scarborough is going to ask someone not to run for something."
This dig was related to Scarborough suggesting that Harry Reid should not run for reelection....
...Dean,
"Non withstanding he "Harry Reid" shouldn’t have said that, this is what happens in Washington, Washington is totally a twitter about a gossip book that was put out about the campaign, betcha anything this is on the Washington Post Best Seller List whether it’s gets on the New York Times Best Sellers List is another matter. I’m sure there is an index in it; everyone is going to run out to see if they are in the book, this is silly, honestly we have um, a huge unemployment rate, we just lost three more people in Afghanistan, we have a Healthcare Bill trying to get its way through the Senate and we got people on Wall street Completely insensitive to what’s going on with the rest of America and we are sitting here talking about a book on Gossip from the last campaign, this is so Washington, Mika so Washington...."
Scarborough tried to bring up Bill Clinton’s conversation with Ted Kennedy that Barack Obama would have been serving us coffee ...Dean,
"this is really gossip. I think we should fixed the problems at hand, and you know that, Joe you’re a veteran of the Washington World, this is the kind of stuff that drives Washington People into ecstasy and the truth of the matter is it doesn’t make a dame bit of difference to the people in Nevada, Colorado, or Vermont or Florida"
....The Bottom-line Dean refused to bit into Scarborough created controversy.
......O’Donnell,
"Whenever you have Al Sharpton and George Will agreeing ah, there is something important going on there. George Will, the only honest Conservative on TV, present company included, ah has dismiss this as a completely meaningless sentence spoken by the majority leader and pointed out that ah that spite the use now politically, politically incorrect word, that appears in the quote, uh that many political analyst during the course of the year were saying the same thing on Television using the politically correct language......
Scarborough realized that he was insulted
"The only honest Conservative on TV"
wanted to know how was he being intellectually dishonest, which O’Donnell said there were only two hour left in the show and he would need more time explaining how intellectually dishonest Mr. Scarborough was being, but O’Donnell did make this statement to,
"to compare this to Trent Lott is ridiculous" Trent Lott was celebrating, looking back thinking gee, it would have been a better country if we had elected a Senator who was running as a Segregationist on a Segregationist Platform, he said we very proudly voted for the Segregationist Candidate for President, that is a very different thing"
A Good Quote from Joan Walsh
One guy is talking, perhaps inelegantly, about why he's whole-heartedly supporting our first black president; the other is wishing the country had elected a racist. That's exactly the same thing!
Further losing the debate, Scarborough attempted to say Liberals were apologizing for Liberals; that Democrats were blindly defending Harry Reid, but then Morning Joe's Guest Katty Kay stopped him and clearly pointed out that Pat Buchanan was saying the same thing as what Lawrence O’Donnell was saying and unless I missed the Breaking News, Pat Buchanan is no liberal... Pat Buchanan perfectly stated:
"I don’t think there was an ounce of malice in what Harry Reid had said; what is he saying, he is saying that Barack Obama was an outstanding candidate (A.) because his mom is white and biracial and that he is more Harvard than Harlem. That is probably a political insight that is absolutely correct." "these comments were not malicious they are blundering comments" and Harry Reid shouldn't lose his job over this"
Can someone help me out here do you remember the clip in 2008 Maybe around August / September, Scarborough was having a conversation with Jonathan Capeheart about Barack Obama Skin Color. Obama had just come back off his vacation which resulted in a Tan, Scarborough and Capeheart had a conversation on how Barack Obama spent too much time in the sun because his skin color appeared to be darker in the light during his debate. Clearly Barack Obama sudden darkness bothered Scarborough enough that he felt he needed to comment on it. Maybe it is Mr. Scarborough who should elaborate on why this was a conversation to begin with.
