researchers have discovered that eating genetically-modified corn causes organ damage in rats. probably works the same for humans. this does not bode well for our corn-sweetner-filled diets.
Monsanto sells corn & soybean seeds which have been genetically modified to allow the use of a destructive herbicide that would kill all but the corn & soybeans one has planted. They license this "Roundup Ready" seed property to other seed companies, who realize that without providing the "Roundup Ready" property, most farmers will not be interested in their seeds. This news came out yesterday in a public radio story regarding a case the Supreme Court is looking at.

However, researchers have discovered that this genetically-mutated version of the corn and soybean seeds causes serious damage within three months to animals who eat those foodstuffs.

Clearly, armed with this knowledge, Monsanto is likely to do whatever they can to protect their bottom line from lawsuits. That means our legislators who take Monsanto funding should be watched very closely on the chance that they'll create laws that protect Monsanto and harm citizen consumers of corn and soybean products.
How do we protect ourselves from eating roundup-ready tainted corn products? Many of the foods in our stores contain this, and there's no labeling. Perhaps we should all step back from our kitchens for a while and consider how we can remove processed foods, fast foods, and sweet foods from our diets.
