I was reading the New York Times accounts of the tragedy in Haiti. I went to see what other readers were saying in one section.
A posting said something I think deserves consideration and possibly even petition or some sort of way to get congress and the President to at least think it over.
follow me....
I won't copy and paste the comment since it was by a private citizen and without permission.
But, the idea is wonderful and could do much for so many people here in the US and in Haiti.
Haiti suffered a historic earthquake that left the city and most of the country in ruins.
Because of decades of depletion of the country by the rulers like Baby Doc, ect., that stole all the monies and drove the country into complete poverty, it is much to poor to take that massive job of digging out and rebuilding. In fact, they don't have the resources to do so.
this country was just starting to find some stability with its new ruler and the rebuilding and help after it was hit by 3 hurricanes the other year.
There was some positive developments going on that would help the country to move forward and eventually become a much better.
In this country, a decade of zero growth, an economic collapse caused by the big banks, the collapsing of what jobs we did have and no real hope for long sustaining and good paying jobs. many that left for overseas are frankly not coming back.
So, this guy writes that with our unemployment and desperate need for jobs, a country devastated by an earthquake and no resources and the need for many people to work in the rebuilding of the country, why not send those unemployed who would be willing to go there and work rebuilding it?
It was the hoped for idea when Katrina destroyed New Orleans and then, W decided to do the no bid contract route with workers from South America and overseen by Karl Rove.
It was a heyday for the vultures to pockets billions and do nothing but gouge the people who were already suffering.
this time lets do it right.
Lets put our people to work who would go to Haiti and rebuild. It would help out the country of Haiti and help us out as well.
To me that is a sure win win if done right.
What do you guys think?
