Ted Kennedy won this seat with nearly 70% of the vote.
Ted Kennedy was a liberal.
Ted Kennedy fought for what he believed in and made sure every one else heard it loud and clear.
How are we even talking about this being even half way close?
How can people have such short term memory when the chaos the Bush years caused is so fresh?
Because we let them in the name of looking forward and moving on, but this alone is not enough
We also have a trifecta of self made circumstances in operation.
1] Conservatives are highly motivated and rather than kick them firmly with due process for the disaster they wrought we let them off the hook. The crimes they committed were absolved and the the hand of bipartisanship was offered. We should have kept beating them over their heads with their own failings.
2] Liberal democrats are demotivated because of the business as usual attitude in DC. No red meat has been thrown to us liberals to get us motivated, an investigation into high crimes would have really got the blood boiling.
3] The Democratic Party candidate and the Party as a whole took this seat as a given. This is probably the stupidest campaign strategy I have ever seen.
Now no matter what the result the Republicans will claim a moral victory and if by some unholy miracle Brown take Ted's place then either two things will happen
1] The Democratic Party will realise it has to supply the base with some blood and we can limit the midterm election damage.
2] The government will grind to an absolute standstill and HCR will be gutted completely and the Republicans will dance for joy on the political barricades.
Probably the latter.
No matter what we are going to face a highly motivated Republican base in the midterms.
I feel as if I have entered the Twilight Zone.
