New Orleans - Vice President Joe Biden told a packed house in New Orleans that the Obama administration promises to continue sending federal funds to the area for hurricane recovery efforts.Biden added that millions of dollars in federal disaster loans for local communities will be forgiven if the city applies soon. Council members on hand said they would work with the Nagin administration to make sure the application deadlines are met.
Biden, flanked by local and state leaders, spoke to a supportive crowd at the Saint Bernard Recreation Center Friday afternoon.
Republican Governor Bobby Jindal also addressed the crowd as Vice President Biden, a Democrat, sat on the stage. Jindal said even though he does not always agree with Biden's politics, he appreciates Biden taking time out of his busy schedule to come to New Orleans, and later to Grand Lake in Cameron Parish, to get a firsthand view of the recovery and on-going rebuilding needs resulting from Hurricane Katrina.....>>>>>

The announcement forgives federal loans to Orleans Parish of $458 million; to Jefferson Parish of $122 million; to St. Tammany Parish of $74 million; to St. Bernard Parish of $33 million; and to Plaquemines Parish of $18 million, according to figures released by Sen. Vice-President Biden in New Orleans today
The Vice-President visits New Orleans today to tout the administration's hurricane recovery and rebuilding efforts.
But, the visit may be a rebuilding effort of its own.
Pollster Bernie Pinsonat, with Southern Media and Opinion Research, says it's likely an effort to rebuild support with folks who've not been happy with what the federal government has done so far.
"Coming down here and talking about giving away money is probably an attempt to try to start shoring up the problems they're having with Louisiana voters," says Pinsonat.
