Just saw Tweety step all over Howard Dean. Very sad, but not entirely baseless. The voters in Massachussets have health care already and don't want to pay for more. They are angry but have stepped on their own feet and our collective feet by voting for a conservative in independent's clothing (Actually, they voted for the emperor with no clothes on at all!). Apparently Coakley was for health care reform with the public option -- so the argument that the voters were sending a message about this seems dubious. Here's what we need to do now.
1.) We have an HCR bill. We must support and push Pelosi and Obama now in twisting arms in the House to pass the Senate bill. It has some really great reforms in it despite its flaws, and it has been gone over and over. We must get it passed and we are truly idiots if we don't. If it doesn't pass, nothing will pass.
2.) Once this is done the bill can go to reconciliation and changes can be made -- just as FDR did with social security. It took 20 years but it was improved over time. He couldn't get a better bill through either.
Then and only then the administration and congress must get to work on:
4.) Jobs
5.) Wall Street and corporate reforms
6.) JOBS JOBS JOBS
Finally, if the economy starts to improve for working Americans and jobs begin to materialize, we can move on to the other critical issues facing our nation including ENERGY, DADT, marriage equality for the GLTB community.
