Representative Henry Cuellar, District 28, TX,
The recent election in Massachusetts is a sign that the Democratic Party is losing it's base. As a progressive Independent, I will vote for either party, so long as I believe the person I am voting for will support progressive causes. When both parties are pulling for the conservative side, why bother voting?
(more below the fold)
Unless the Democratic Party stops pandering to big business and corporations, they (and you) will lose big this election year. Every piece of legislation to come out of our government this year has been to save the profiteers, or to further the hold of big businesses that are already making tons of money, like big insurance, big oil, and big coal. We ask our elected officials to start representing the PEOPLE, not corporations.
I hope that Democrats find the spine to stand up for what is needed to fix this nation. I want to see a public option pass, through reconciliation if necessary. I want to see a healthy green energy package which includes plenty for green jobs and a cap-and-trade legislation that limits profits on carbon based businesses. I want Guantanamo closed and a definite deadline for departing Afghanistan. It's time we took the money from two wars and started investing it back in the US - in jobs and in education. I want to see an end to Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Basically, I want the agenda promised by President Obama during his campaign... the campaign where I busted my butt to help get him elected.
I am the base. I am the Independent that controls the vote in so many states. You may think it's the Tea Party vote, but it isn't. I, and those like me, will be the ones that volunteer for your campaign and help you get elected. So start acting like you want us by your side.
Sincerely,
Angie Drake
