of my username!
Okay, maybe "abuse" is too strong of a word. In fact, Kossacks aren't really abusing my username at all. But, I do have a point of procedure to make that I'd like others to follow. I swear I have a point!
Every now and again, I check the search function on Daily Kos to see if others have mentioned my username in a diary or in a comment. I do this because it's impossible to read everybody's diaries and comments on Daily Kos, so I check if someone has referred to something I wrote, and offered a point of praise or criticism. Sometimes I'll see a nice little hat tip for writing the diary that you'll find in the FAQ about how to embed Comedy Central videos into Daily Kos diaries. I make sure to check the terms "SuperBowlXX" and the shortened "SuperBowl" (as well as the less common SBXX).
But too often, I find that when somebody uses the term "superbowl" in a diary or comment, they're not referring to me. They are referring to the big football game. Just this week, there were more than 40 comments where people wrote the term "superbowl" when discussing the NFL championship. As the big game approaches in less than two weeks, I can expect I'll be seeing a LOT of comments where I'll wonder if someone has said something about me, only to find that they were just talking football (I'm putting the over/under of comments using the term "superbowl" on Super Bowl Sunday at 150).
Now, I understand that it's my fault that I picked the most awesome name in the universe, and that it's common to find misspelled words since we can't edit our comments after posting them, and that this is a rather small inconvenience on my part in the big scheme of all things related to the Great Orange Satan. And hey, I'm all for Kossacks discussing football. But here's a simple two-part request from me, your humble diarist, to my fellow readers. When writing a diary or comment:
- Use the term "Superbowl" (one word) when referring to me, the Daily Kos contributor. If you specify it to include the XX at the end, even better.
- Use the term "Super Bowl" (two words) when referring to the big game. That's how the game is spelled in real life. Two words, not one. One word is me.
If y'all could do that for me, I'd appreciate it. It's basically just for my bookkeeping purposes to make my web searching experience a little easier and more efficient.
Thanks. Now, back to your regularly scheduled Daily Kos outrage.
