dude, where's my democratic party?? after three years control of congress,
and a little over a year in the presidency, i have serious concerns about
the direction of the democratic party. the democrats are the "working man's
(and women's) party", but you wouldn't know it from the "appearance" of
things, and "appearance" means a lot in politics. here are my concerns
about the democrats going into the 2010 elections, and what i believe, are
their best chances to regain the people's trust.
a good indication of the strength of your party, is to look at the
strength's of your opposition party. sarah palin has regained some of the
popularity she enjoyed after her convention speech. why is that? she is
the losing vp candidate, and governor that didn't finish out her duly
elected term. she should be political "toast". but she isn't. she , like
scott brown, took the "joe six pack", hard working, average citizen, non
bailout receiving, cynical voting block, and made herself one of their
own. for whatever reason, the republicans have made themselves the pro
freedom, family loving, terrorist hating, alternative to the democrats.
why has it been so easy for them?? i believe the weakness of the
democratic party has given them the "outsider" mantra as their own, and
they don't deserve it. barack obama took his eye off the ball for a
complete year, while the tea party movement became popular.
philosophically, the tea partiers stand for george bush economics, but
obama never took them on, and neither did the democrats. he needs to take
on their philosophy. no more wining about the disturbing signs at these
rallies. we can point out the hate filled angst of the tea partiers, but
we'd be more successful in taking on their failed economic philosophies.
along with that, obama should stop playing golf. given the political
winds out there, it's absurd for him to be playing such a "banker" sport.
besides, tiger woods is associated with golf, and he's tarnished the
sport as well. bush stopped playing golf because of the "appearance" it
sends to military families. he was wise in the decision. obama should
follow suit. the other "appearance" problem is nancy pelosi. when i see
her on tv, i feel like i'm watching someone who just stepped off the red
carpet. she looks like the character from the "devil wears prada", in
other words, she looks "rich". she certainly doesn't dress like the
average voter. she should tone it down. we are not the "cocktail" party,
we are the democratic party. the party of unions, farmers, working
people, and small business. these are two suggestions, but i think they
would be a good start. we need to regain the trust of the common man(and
woman).if health care isn't passed, we should at least expand medicare.
this congress, and president, have to give something back to the american
people, otherwise it will look like the democrats just take care of the
banks. passing legislation that helps average americans, something
tangible, that they can "see", will go far in helping the democrat's
"appearance", because they don't look very good right now.
