I have been saying for months that the Dems in Congress better get it together or face losing big time due to lack of constructive legislation on major issues like health care. So it came as no big surprise to me that a Republican won in Massachusetts. Despite many independents voting Republican, I can only surmise that many Dems stayed home either because they didn't like the Dem candidate or they became complacent LIKE MYSELF AND MANY OTHERS about Dems ability to get anything done
Here is the BIG PROBLEM the Dem Congress faces. There are many people in this country that look at a majority in the House and the Senate and cannot understand why Dems can't get anything significant done. The Republicans did not have a super majority in the Senate and yet they still managed to get their agenda pushed through. People don't understand why the Dems can't do the same. THEY JUST DON'T! They are tired of the excuses and if the Dems don't get on the ball and pass legislation THIS YEAR any way possible, they are going to lose BIG in November because people will say....well we gave them 2 years and they did absolutely nothing. Perhaps the GOP will get something done.
SCREW BIPARTISANSHIP! People just want Congress to move forward. This bickering, arguing, negotiating, and ridiculous concessions to pass a half ass bill that won't make any significant difference like the mortgage bill or the health care bill HAS TO END....NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Polls out today show the Dems are in BIG TROUBLE if they don't act. But ACTION is not enough. We want to be heard over the loud voices of the special interests. 63% of the country still wants health care and still support a public option. SO GIVE US MEDICARE FOR ALL!
Doris Kerns Goodwin, last week on the Daily Show, made a serious case for making those who threaten to filibuster actually filibuster. She pointed out that the last time the GOP did this is lasted almost 2 months but in the end failed because the public turned against those who were filibustering. SO MAKE THEM FILIBUSTER! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if they hold up progress by stalling with a filibuster they are going to be seen in the light of day for what they REALLY are........obstructionists. If they filibuster, it will get the country talking because the media will be there all the way, slicing and dicing with their dialogue about what is going on in the Senate. It would give POTUS Obama a platform to say..."see, we have done everything possible to work with them but all they can do is "JUST SAY NO!"
The Dems in Washington need to starting saying NO to the GOP and anyone else inside their caucus that doesn't get on board and see it is not only to their advantage but it is the country's advantage for them to grow a pair, stand up for what is right and get something done any way possible.
