There always the usual culprits like health insurance lobbyist who swarmed on capital hill and spent record amounts in order to have there way with the political prostitutes we call legislators.
You also have the party of no singing together in unison NO!!
But thats not all. You also have blue dogs. I mean corpratist or whateva da F*** they call themselves killing the bill slowly with a cancer of bad ideas.
But this is all expected to a certain degree. Who here thinks the groups I named are being irrational in doing what's best for them? Health insurance lobbyist were created to protect health insurance companies so thats completely reasonable. It's morally wrong but I think we all understand the logic.
What about the republicans? Well I think Obama explained why they can't say yes to anything pretty well in the video below
What about the blue dogs? they are a little complicated because they are voting against their own job security but they are voting for their donors. it's really that simple with them they are basically fucking themselves.
Now that leaves one more group. Progressives. Well, to me we are the main culprits because we did one thing wrong out of these two things. We either pushed to hard and didn't except what we could get soon enough so we could do something for the people we all care so much about. Or we didn't push hard enough on the leaders in congress to let them know there will be hell to pay.
This is very important. but with full disclosure I belong to the first camp I think we pushed progressives in congress so hard and we trashed the senate bill so much from our side,
we left our allies in congress with no friends,
Just enemies on the right and the left and when they had no choice but to compromise to get a bill passed the bill was perceived as nothing positive.
Well, you might argue they shouldn't have compromised they should have made blue-dogs compromise. But ask your self why would bill nelson compromise? He said it himself he wouldn't have done healthcare this year if it where up to him. So, if he essentially things it's a bad idea to do it this year but he, hold his nose to do this little bit. How many more things do you think this prick aka senator will be willing to compromise on? Not much I would assume.
As for the strategy of pushing harder I believe that strategy can work but, in my opinion it requires a lot of pain. We have to get as riled up as the tea party and we probably have to elect some unelectable people in our primaries. we have to show to vote in primaries we have to get motivated not to save the party but to reform the party. Why you ask? Because we have to make them fear our base. Then we will have more power when we push for things like the public option but we have to punish them first and let them no we are the reason why you will lose, not tea-baggers. This strategy requires a lot of pain because when we punish them we punish ourselves too. So I guess we are all responsible for killing health care right?
