We have developed into quite an enterprise. The other night I was chatting with another guild leader, and he commented that we are an exceptionally large guild. In an era when many guild are getting smaller and more specialized, we are growing larger and more diverse.
For those who don’t know, we were started last April by Moodyloner as a comment in the Cheers&Jeers diary on Dailykos.com and the rest is history. We have almost 350 members with over 150 accounts. Some of those are inactive, but almost 100 people play regularly, and I do know who all of you are. We run 4 or 5 raids a week from Naxx10 to ICC25. We have families that all play together. We have people leveling 10 alts at once. And we have people who are discovering how much fun PvP can be.
The question is where do we go from here.
PvP:
Do we want to start an arena team? I just got my first ever arena points from turning in a something to the Warcaller of the Horde guy who hangs out in the all the cities with the blue question mark. You know the one I mean.
So arena teams? What do you think?
Raiding:
We’ve have some new 80’s joining the ranks, and I hope to get them into Naxx soon. And we’ve had some of our G raiders move to PG, and some PGs move to PG-13. We’ve also had some players with raiding toons on other servers transfer those characters over to Garrosh. We got some of our first guild 25 man achievement for the weekly last week on Razorscale. I think we had 5 PUGs for that, but the time is coming soon, when we will have enough people to do our own 25 person raids.
The Heritage raids with Tamalli are hugely popular and are open to anyone who is at the right level. For the old world, this means level 60 and up. For the Outland, 70 and up.
I really need someone who is getting comfortable in Naxx to step up and start leading that raid. This should probably be a PG or new PG-13 player, and a tank who also understands healing.....(Mama looks around). This would not be a full time job, but an opportunity to learn how to lean a raid. And I know that a couple of our R raiders would be happy to run through with you (whoever you are) on one of their PG-13 alts as back up until you feel confident.
Otoño is scheduling the R raids for Friday and Saturday nights, while I try to fit the G and PG raids in around those.
Right now the pattern is:
Tuesday or Wednesday: The Weekly on 10 or 25 if it isn’t Marrowgar.
Thursday: Heritage night with Tamalli
Friday: R raids ICC10 Saturday: R raid II & Noob Night in Naxx
Sunday late night: ICC25 with Easily Amused. (R raiders by invitation)
What I’d like to add as other people step up to start leading raids:
Sunday early night ICC trash rep raiding
Monday night More Noobs in Naxx OR Obsidian Sanctum OR other PG raids.
Recrutiment:
We have been recruiting, if you can call if that, from Daily Kos. But not all like-minded folk read Daily Kos. Tanah and Greg came to us from the server. Sibyll is a friend of Moody’s from Second Life. Twomoves is an alt from Easily Amused who wants to hang out with us to talk politics. And Bloodmote is a friendly Canadian who was looking for a friendly and mature guild. John Cole of Balloon Juice is planning to transfer his characters to our server and guild as soon as his shoulder is healed up.
So what is our policy on recruitment?
Do we keep it restricted to mainly Kossacks and only invite others on a case by case basis? Or can we start opening it up a bit more and invite more people from the server that we think would be a good fit? Do we start spamming recruitment ads in trade ("Are you tired of the homophobia, mysogyny, and wingnuttery of the trade channel? Are you a political liberal who believes in the public option? Do you long for intelligent guild chat with other adults who use complete and grammatically correct sentences while mocking Sarah Palin and the teabaggers? Come joined the writers, artists, lawyers, professors and liberal political activists at the Wreck Lists! We have a Guild Vault AND a Tabard!" Submit Vita or Portfolio or List of Campaigns and three references to...")
Membership:
We are big now, and lots of people have lots of alts. And that is fine for now. The soft cap is 500. Guilds can actually be larger than that, but the normal guild interface can only hold 500 names. And I have some nifty addons that help me keep track of everyone. In order for these addons to work, I need to have certain information in the public note.
Do not change or add you own raid rating. If you want it changed or added, send me a note and I’ll do it. It has to be in a certain format, or you will miss getting important notices and invitations to raids.
I need to know Mains and Alts. Your main should be a character that you check almost everyday. You can change your main. If you check your characters and see something incorrect in your guild note, fix it. But if you put the word Alt in your note for your main, then my addons will think that is the alt, and so on. So if the character is your Main, just put Main. If it is an Alt, then put "Alt of whowever". If you invite someone new into the guild, please put a quick guild note of who they are. Or if you bring a new alt into the guild, put that in the note: "Alt of ————————."
There is no need to list your professions any more. Everyone just asks in guild chat any way, not.
If you are going to be away from the game for awhile, please let me know.
If you look at the guild list in the game you will see some codes for people who haven’t played in awhile:
AWOL: Hasn’t logged on in over two months. I am in the process of tracking down to find out what’s up.
MIA: Hasn’t logged on in a month. I am worried and will start trying to track down.
TAB: Taking a break. Mama knows what’s up.
If you see that I have one of your alts listed as AWOL or MIA, don’t worry.
Anyone that does not have an authenticator and doesn’t log on for at least a month will lose their trusted user status. I will not /gkick anyone unless there is good cause. However, if someone hasn’t played in nine months and their only character in the guild is a level 58 Death Knight, I will remove them to make room for someone’s tenth alt who plays every day.
At some point if we start getting near that soft cap of 500 members I may start asking people to take their bank alts out of the guild. But we are no where near that point — yet.
Staying in Touch:
I would very much appreciate having some contact information for everyone. I know this isn’t going to happen, but I can wish for it.
There are plenty of options for those with every privacy concern:
Register here.
Put your Dkos handle in your user note (I will move it your Officer note which only officers can see, but this only works if you have an email listed on dailykos or post there regularly).
Join us on Facebook at "The Wreck List".
Make a sock puppet account on Facebook and join the Wreck List.
Send me an email at dkosmama@wrecklist.net
Get your own wrecklist email for free from Pinutos. This account can be configured to deliver email into your regular email program so you don’t have to check it everyday.
If something comes up you can always reach me at dkosmama@wrecklist.net but if you need to get hold of me right away, Otoño and Papagenia can reach me any time of the day or night.
And finally HAL:
Everyone should know about HAL. It’s the guild’s nickname for one of the addons I am using to keep track of everything. It’s a great addon and I would be lost without it.
HAL will no longer greet and congratulate everyone in guild chat.
If you want HAL to ignore you, then I can put you on his ignore list. This will not hurt HAL’s feelings. HAL is an addon. He has no feelings.
If you want HAL to nag you about something, like studying, he can do that.
If you love HAL and want him to whisper greetings and grats to you, then know that I know what HAL knows. This feature is no longer automated. I could be doing guild Auctions or PvPing in Wintergrasp or in the middle of a raid, and if you level or get an achievement, I’ll use HAL to acknowledge you. It’s really me. I see it. I know it. I actually have to approve it by clicking, but I do it via HAL so I don’t wipe raid. HAL allows me to actually play the game sometimes and still be a good guild leader. However, it will no longer be instant because I have to actually hit the send key.
So that’s where I think we are. What do you think?
Home sick today, so that's all I have for now. Update us below and let us know how things are going.
