When it comes to attacking the Clean Air Act, it's not just Republicans we have to worry about.
As every Kossack knows, Sen. Blanche Lincoln is a real problem for progressives on a whole host of issues, but she has thrown her lot in with Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-Alaska) attempt to gut the Clean Air Act.
This appears to be positioning her for a cushy K Street lobbying job more than representing the health of her constituents, as her poll numbers continue to sink like a rock.
This week CREDO Action is teaming up with Friends of the Earth to run a billboard contest that will hold Sen. Lincoln accountable to her constituents for trying to gut the Clean Air Act.
Of course Sen. Lincoln’s spokesperson offers an Orwellian response:
"These intentionally deceptive ads lead people to believe that Senator Lincoln’s efforts would interfere with the enforcement of the Clean Air Act, which is not accurate. The Murkowski resolution maintains the Clean Air Act by preventing the EPA from moving forward with over-reaching regulations..."
Last week, Sen. Lincoln lashed out at the League of Conservation Voters in Arkansas, after the group named her to their iconic Dirty Dozen list for throwing in her lot with Murkowski saying:
"Threats from extremist groups from outside our state tell me I’m doing something right for Arkansas"
As we all know, Sen. Lincoln and Murkowski’s efforts would obviously interfere with the Clean Air Act and the "over-reaching regulations" are exactly what the Clean Air Act was designed to do.
You’ll have to check out the billboards for yourself and vote on your favorite. Don’t forget to leave your own suggestion if you have something better.
The important part of this campaign is Blanche Lincoln is on the wrong side, and we will send her and other Democratic senators a message: If you continue to support polluting special interests and their corporate lobbyists, we will take our case directly to your constituents.
They should be told just how important the Clean Air Act is to us right now. It is the most powerful existing federal tool to cut the pollution that causes global warming. Last month, the Obama administration finalized its formal conclusion that global warming endangers the health and well being of the public. Because of this endangerment finding, the administration is now required by the Clean Air Act to move forward with sensible regulations to reduce this pollution.
Help us decide which billboard we should run in the heart of Arkansas that will be seen by thousands every day, or suggest your own billboard concept and language.
Remember, this is a democracy and it is your civic duty to go vote on our billboard contest. No hanging chads.
