Sarah Palin's Presidential ambition won't be done in by politicians, polls, or pundits. Her candidacy will be done in by the comedians. Today's newspaper section on "Smart Mouths" quoting Letterman, Kimmel, et. al. has this from Jimmy Fallon:
It so cold out there, the writing on Sarah Palin's hand said, "Economy, jobs, put gloves on, stupid."
Sarah's base, the Tea Party, will also eventually lose its momentary ascendency ("shiny new object" for the MSM) because of the comedians. See below the fold.
My newspaper also quotes Letterman's joke.
In New York City this morning, the snow was a tremendous sight. It was whiter than a Tea Party rally.
The comedians get to tell the truth that "serious" commentators can't, in a way that gets through to people. Palin's run in 2008 was devastated by humor (mostly Tina Fey) and she's continuing to provide the fodder for ridicule. I was worried that many people would defend her writing notes on her hand (as an example of her "folksiness"), but now I think she's created "Handgate" for herself. This may dog her career for a long time, like Dan Quayle's spelling mistakes.
