Predictor’s quilt top
Austex54 is the beloved spouse of and caretaker to othniel. Othniel has the first “love catcher” quilt made in this community – we made it for him when he underwent a series of hospitalizations – first for an abscess in his leg, later for a gastric problem that involved the liver, and later for antibiotic resisitant infections he caught while in the hospital. We’re now making a “love catcher” for his beloved husband, austex54, who has seen othniel through all these travails with greatest love and most tender care. Austex54 is on duty again today, for sad to say, othniel was sent back to the ER and may be admitted to the hospital again tonight.

Being a caretaker to a person in fragile health is one of the hardest jobs in the world. It involves intense anxiety, lack of sleep, and no time off no matter the state of your exhaustion. We are honoring austex54 as a caretaker now and will be putting up a diary for Kitsap River’s caretaker and husband, Charles CurtisStanley, on Monday. In a week or so, look for a quilt diary for MA Liberal who is caretaker to her mother, a dementia sufferer.
one bite at a time’s queen-sized quilt – austex54’s quilt will be something like this
Austex54’s quilt is funded but we are looking for some more uplifting messages for him – please include one in the comments below if you have not already provided one. If you would like to pay forward to Charles’ quilt, please use this PayPal link or email me for a snail mail address. I estimate that the cost of the quilt will be $5/message – this will cover materials and a bit of our time.
Here are some examples of messages written to austex54 if you are looking for inspiration:
"Thank you for taking such good care of Robert. Be sure to care for yourself, too." Jane
I find it poetically ironic that your kind, generous, and beautiful heart has played such a tremendous role inhelping heal Pop's liver. Thank you so very much for having become a part of our lives. Banning
For someone who has done yeoman’s service. Gene
Some people give with their hands; a caregiver gives with his heart. Caregivers are the true angels of health, come to earth for those who need them most. Know that you are honored for all that you do. Kitsap River
Warmth, strength and hugs for you and Robert. Susan Estinson
"You've taken such great care of my dad, You deserve an indigo and a violet power ring." Byron
Greater love hath no man than to wait and watch and care and worry and be there and be there. And, yeah, be there. Dixie Dawg
Having Barry in Austin with my brother, and knowing the care he lavishes upon him has given me great peace of mind during Robert's illness." Regina

It bears 108 messages and will be queen-sized. We are also working on luvsathoroughbred’s quilt – the blocks are almost done and all the messages have been collected. These two quilts will be finished and shipped sometime next week.
