Mitch McConnell was on Fox this afternoon delivering the most worn out line in the GOP playbook, that health care reform is "a government takeover of one sixth of the US economy." This was also part of Boehner's reponse to Obama's thrashing of the Republican Caucus in Baltimore.
One thing that must happen in the health care summit, is that when they try this tired bullshit, put the spotlight on them and make them squirm.
I would like someone to call them out on directly for lying to their constituents and generally undermining the legislative process by spewing making ridiculous fairy tales.
Furthermore, I would like to see someone challenge Boehner or McConnell to stop the crazy talk, but if they are unable to provide honest representation to their constituents and a basic level of competence in their jobs, then they should step down immediately.
In my imagination I can hear Al Franken delivering the message:
Sir, with all due respect, if the best you can do in the service of your constituents is deceptive crazy talk about takeovers of one sixth of the economy, if you can't be an honest participant in this process, then I would beg of you to tender your resignation and return home no later than the next bus out of town. I'm prepared to drive you to the station right now and lend you bus fare so the rest of the country can get on with its business.
