Question for anyone on here who could answer.
I've been going over something for a long time in my head and I have some questions for the people on here who might know better then me.
I know there is an anti trust exemption for health care companies that keeps competition away, but if that gets waived next week, I have a question.
Why cany local communities just start thier own type of non for profit single payer, that is private and not public? Almost like a co-op.
To me, its just simple math. But I could be wrong.
This is a rough estimate of a simple idea I have so dont kill me about the numbers. Its just an estimate, and an idea. If I am leaving something out, let me know.
Lets just take for example, a local county with 50,000 people.
Now lets charge them each $1000 each to buy into a local plan, and $400 a month for on going coverage.
Most people stay local for thier doctor, so that works for me where I live.
The $1000 x 50,000 will be 50 Million to start up.
The $400 a month x 50,000 x 12 months a year = another 240 million
Now I talked to a few doctors about this, and they said that on average, you would need one doctor for about every 1,500 people in a community.
If we get greedy, and we make that lower and say one doctor for every thousand people instead, then we have a need for roughly about 100 doctors in our 50,000 county.
You pay each of these doctors a set salary of $400,000. They work 8-10 hours a day and dont get paid by the number of patients they see, and they can have time to get to know the patients. Also gives then time to teach them about how to eat better, take care of themselves, and live a better lifestyle.
Doctor salary, $400,000 x 100 =40 million.
We have 200 million left. + 50 Million start up.
You rent out big office space in a medical center, or buy a hospital type building.
15 Million a year say.
Then you fill it with all of your own equipment.
10 MRI machines, and 10 Cat Scans.. Blood testing equipment..and xrays stuff. Everything you need.
Say another 30 Million for that Equipment
Down to 170 Million.
You hire a Nurse for every doctor at 75,000 a year.
100 Nurses x 75,000= 7.5 Million.
Down to 162 Million left.
Make a deal for Drug purchases. Say another 40 Million.
When people come in, they get drugs for a small co pay like in England. Like 10 bucks a shot for what ever they need.
Down to 122 Million left.
So now you have cleaning staff, and managers who order equipment, and administraitors.
Say another 20 Million for all of that.
That leaves about 100 Million.
Now you tell any9one below the poverty line that they can get ot for either dirt cheap of for free.
Remember that we as a community own all of the equipment, all of the testing equipment, and all fo the x Rays and Cat scans. There is no need to charge anyone anything because it belongs to all of us. So there wouldnt be some huge chages for testing.
Same with blood work. Just a salaried person getting the results of the tests. No charges for anyone in the program. And everyone would probably join.
Then what you do is call up Blue Cross, Blue Scheld and ask how much would it cost to insure 50,000 people for catasrific coverage.
I did this and it is only like $50 per person, per month when you buy in bulk of 50,000 people like that.
So would be another 30 million gone but now you are all covered for any major thing in most really good hospitals in your area. It even covered cancer in Sloan Kettering hospital in NY.
Catastofic coverage is only like 1% of all sickness too.
That also covers all major operations, cancer, and any life threating disease.
You could even entice Doctors to come into your program by paying for thier medical mal practice insurance.
Most said it was like $1000 a month x12 x 100 doctors is only like 1.2 million.
So we are doen to around 65 Million left over....
What else would cost money? Is this possible or as simple as the numbers seem?
Could we do this on our own? No Rate hikes, no advertising, administraitors on Salary, and no big CEO Salaries or bonuses. Also brand new state of the art equipment every 5 years...
Tell me how this is wrong, and how is couldnt be recreated in every pocket of $50,000 people throughout the country.
Like I said, I know that this is rough, esitimate, and Maybe I'm totally naive, but why wouldnt this work?
I'm sure we could also get Tax credits for up to $5,000 a year like the republicans were ready to give and make it cheaper for everyone too.
Please dont slay me on the spelling...Its 1 am and I'm blurry eyed writing this.
