I did a Diary like this several years ago and it went over pretty well. So I thought I would try it again as I sit waiting for a client to call me back. Maybe I am strange but when I see a screen name I wonder about their age, sex, things like that. But close behind those demographics details is I wonder where they live and more specifically, where they are posting from. A home office (like myself). A laptop in the kitchen as they get the kids ready for school. An office cubical where you are bored beyond tears. A coffee shop at lunch.
Now I don't even know why I should care about this stuff, but head to Flickr, Unclutterer (the coolest site in the world for OCD folks like myself), or Lifehacker and there are entire forums and groups where people obsess and post pics and talk about their office space. So I maybe strange but I am not alone.
So below the fold where I sit everyday and maybe a few folks might find this interesting and post pics of their space(s) so I can scratch this strange interest of mine.
Since I work out of my house I've spent more money on my home office then any other room in my house. I mean if I am in the place for 12-15 hours a day, I figure I should be comfortable. Got the laptop (Sony Vaio) as my primary computer and then the dual monitor HP you see to each side, that I just use as a media server.
I network with a lot of other people that do freelance work and it often stuns me how little thinking or time they put into their office. Maybe I think this way cause my background is working at ad agencies, which usually have about the coolest offices around, coupled with my OCD, but a good workspace for me is key to getting things done.
Then behind me we have this, my white board and peg board. About the best $30 bucks I've ever spent. As much of a computer geek as I am there are plenty of "mind mapping" applications out there, but just being able to write and think on a white board or map out the navigation of a web site on a peg board with note cards, well that is how my mind works and it costs almost nothing.
Now I really like my "space" but some folks take things to a level that are hard to comprehend, like something out of Star Trek. But below is one of my favorite spaces. Simple, "homey," and most important of all open (clear of clutter) and functional.
So where do you work and/or blog from? I can't be the only person that finds this stuff interesting.
