After last night, I didn't think anyone would mind the temporary displacement of the Countdown diary logo. Now, onto the business at hand. Except for my brain finally pooing out at around 4:10 this afternoon & the 45 minutes I was away from my office for lunch (and missing the sparkin' live smackdown of Senator McCentury about the election being over & Rep. Cantor's comments about people's alleged problems with health care! cuss...cuss...grumble...grumble...), I listened to/watched the whole meeting today. The whole...damn...thing...
I know this revelation will come as a HUGE shock, but this image of what the GOP brought to today's shin - dig actually rang absolutely true!
Allow me for a bit to prime the discussion pump with my observations from today. If anyone did a drinking game with the phrases "Seniors are scared!" or "...clean sheet of paper..." or "Start all over again," their livers would be shot - if they were lucky! Today's meeting was in the Garden Room of Blair House. Here’s the list of attendees for today’s events: President Obama, VP Biden, Secretary Sebelius, Senator Harry Reid, Senator Mitch McConnell, Senator Dick Durbin, Senator Jon Kyl, Senator Max Baucus, Senator Chuck Grassley, Senator Tom Harkin, Senator Mike Enzi, Senator Chris Dodd, Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Patty Murray, Senator Kent Conrad, Senator Jay Rockefeller, Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Lamar Alexander, Senator John Barrasso, Senator Tom Coburn, Senator John McCain, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Representative Steny Hoyer, Representative John Boehner, Representative James Clyburn, Representative Eric Cantor, Representative Charles Rangel, Representative Dave Camp, Representative Henry Waxman, Representative Joe Barton, Representative George Miller, Representative John Kline, Representative John Dingell, Representative Xavier Becerra, Representative Louise Slaughter, Representative Robert Andrews, Representative Jim Cooper, Representative Paul Ryan, Representative Marsha Blackburn, Representative Charles Boustany, and Representative Peter Roskam, R-IL.
I can’t help but notice who’s NOT on the guest list – people like Rep. Anthony Weiner, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, etc. I should do some digging around to see which Senators who signed the public option reconciliation letter got on the invite list. OK...done...there’s 1 Senator in the room – ONE – who has signed the reconciliation letter; that Senator is Chuck Schumer – that’s it. Here’s a link that has an up – to – date list of who has signed.
Senator Alexander was the GOP spokes critter just after President Obama made his opening remarks. He brought up the damn elections for Governors & Senator Nude Cosmo & such. He just said to start over, too. I thought President Obama specifically said he didn’t want this gig to be a trading of talking points! Whoa! He just said he wanted President Obama to succeed; Boss Limbaugh will not be pleased. ;D Senator Alexander used another classroom reference as some sort of dig. He poo – pooed going too hard on the health insurance industry profits. He must get lots of campaign coin from them. He just called the reconciliation process "little – used" & wants President Obama to come right out & say HCR won’t be "rammed through" via reconciliation??!! What a dick!! *&^%$#@!
I've got pages & pages of thoughts about what happened today, but I want to hear from you, too! I did invite y'all for Pete's sake! ;D How much of the meeting did you watch or listen to? What (if anything) was accomplished? How soon will be have a HCR bill signed into law? Any other thoughts, observations, etc. are absolutely welcome, too! Let's get it on! No, not the Marvin Gaye way; get your minds out of the gutter! ;D
