So we had the Health Care Summit this week, and as usual, the Democrats made a pretty good showing.
And we had the Republicans....
...Wait, we seriously "can't do anything" because of THESE GUYS?!?
But let's not think about that now! It's the weekend, so let's enjoy some fresh, juicy ITEMS!
ITEM! Why do Neocons hate Muslims so much? Jacob Hornberger nails it here! (Thanks to Keith S. for the link!)
ITEM! Speaking of which, several of the more Libertarian-leaning conservative groups organized a well-attended panel at CPAC tited, ""You’ve Been Lied To: Why Real Conservatives Should Reject the War on Terror." Needless to say, the voice of the neoconservatives, Front Page Magazine, was NOT happy about it. This disconnect between truly pissed off conservatives on the one hand, and the GOP apparatniks that have been trying to harness their anger on the other, may help explain why Sarah Palin (the falsely so-called Tea Party darling) and every other Republican was beaten handily in the CPAC straw poll by the original hero of the revolution, Congressman Ron Paul. And that, in a nutshell, is why I am sanguine about 2012.
ITEM! The House passed the Intel funding bill -- after stripping it of the torture ban. More here.
Yes, it is "this shit again."
ITEM! What the hell is Al Qaeda, anyway? Let's fast-wind back to the darkest years of the Bush Administration:
Al-Qaida, literally "the database", was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians. Inexplicably, and with disastrous consequences, it never appears to have occurred to Washington that once Russia was out of the way, Bin Laden's organisation would turn its attention to the west. -- Robin Cook's editorial of 8 July 2005 in The Guardian, found here
Could this grand enemy be, in fact, not be a movement, but instead more akin to "The Facebook of Terrorism?" If so, how can we possibly defeat it through military means?
"The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the 'devil' only in order to drive the 'TV watcher' to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US and the lobbyists for the US war on terrorism are only interested in making money." -- Source: Global Research
CAPYBARA!
MORE CAPYBARA!
They chirp like birds!
ITEM! President Obama called former VP Dick Cheney after Mr. Cheney was discharged from hospital, to wish him a speedy recovery. More here. One only hopes that Mr. Cheney's response can be printed in a newspaper.
ITEM!
"Freedom is a Right." -- John Boehner, 25 Feb 2010.
More on tautologies here.
ITEM! How do you predict the kinetic energy of an electron? Ask this chick. Her work solving an 80-year-old quantum mechanics problem will enable engineers to produce chips that run five orders of magnitude faster than they do now -- instead of gigahertz, think hundreds of terahertz.
"Math class is tough!" -- Barbie
ITEM! The Republicans have finally released their health care proposal. More here.
ITEM! Happy birthday Apache! If it weren't for you, the Great Orange Satan would probably run on IIS. And we all know how that would go!
We imagine it would be like this, only more annoying
Thanks for reading, everyone! And now, a word from our sponsors!
