Yes, you read that right.
Eliot Spitzer's madam, Kirstin Davis, has decided to run for governor.
According to an article at The Daily Beast, Kirstin Davis, the madam who provided services for Spitzer when he was Attorney General and Governor, has declared her candidacy.
She is not the first sex worker to run for high government office, and there is something oddly right about someone who is so exposed already (pun intended) putting her hat in the ring. The skeletons are already out of the closet, so what else is there to find?
Davis, a former Penthouse pet and registered sex offender, calls herself "an outsider" and "the only candidate who is not part of the corrupt and dysfunctional system of New York state politics." She is considering an appeal to the Libertarian party to be their candidate, but in the meantime appears to be espousing an intersting flavor of Libertarianism. From her explanation as to why she's running, she's certainly not cut of the same cloth as the Paulite/Teabagging types who also use the word "Libertarian" to describe themselves. And while she is in favor of the things we used to think of as Libertarian, there is an interesting twist: she's more in favor of reasonable Regulation of marijuana and sex workers than out and out Legalization. She also, according to The Advocate, considers marriage equality "her key social plank."
At any rate... while it's likely not to be taken seriously in NYS, her throwing the hat in the ring is at least marginally interesting...and is certainly headline grabbing.
