It is no news that GOP uses fearmongering to manipulate its donors and to win elections. Been doing that since 2001. What's news is that how far and wide this deceitful practice actually extends. How about History Channel? How about HistoryNet.com? How about MHQ (Military History Quarterly) magazine? Are they also giving a helping hand to GOP's "let's freak out teh America" campaign?
Earlier this afternoon, encouraged by the rising temperatures and the sunshine, I decided to stop by my favorite hangout, the local B&N, to browse through some mags. I don't usually read the history magazines unless a cover pic captures my attention and this one was impossible to miss: A colorful miniature painting from 1300-1500 era (I am not certain about the date of the painting)depicting a bloody head cutting scene with the title "The Power of Murder in Early Islam" by Jefferson Gray on the cover of a newly minted Spring 2010 edition of MHQ (Military History Quarterly.Link
Oh well...yada yada, I thought and...just when I was moving onto something else (nothing is new about using Islam as a fearmongering tool so move along) I noticed another article's caption featured on the same cover: "Was Martin Luther King Jr. an Insurgent" by Mark Grimsley. WTF? Grimsley's article is titled "Why the Civil Rights Movement Was an Insurgency." Link I am not going to make a comment about the article other than my initial reaction to it: WTF! One litlle "blurb" however is worth printing here for all to see:
The black insurgency holds lessons for 2010: To counter the insurgency in Afghanistan, for example, the U.S. must 'wrest the information initiative' from the enemy 'to win the important battle of perception.'
—Gen. Stanley McChrystal, 2009
Again, I will not make a comment other than reprinting the following words from McChrystals statement:
black insurgency
insurgency in Afghanistan
enemy
"Battle of perception" indeed, my dear general...
Let's see...in further elaboration, we get the following...
Civil Rights movement (even though it was about non violent protests for the rights already granted by federal laws)was an insurgency
Martin Luther King Jr. was an insurgent (How many people did he maime and kill, if I may ask?)
Now equate these to the following:
The insurgency in Afghanistan
Enemy...
Also, how about adding the Islamic head cutting murder painting as the background to "Was Martin Luther King Jr. an Insurgent" line, for good measure?
Should I say WTF, again? Or is it redundant to even say it, at this point?
Who are the target audience of MHQ? Members of our distinguished military, of course.
Attention dear members of our armed forces. I strongly suspect that you are being targeted by highly sophisticated psyops monkey brigade language experts who think you are brainwashable...
Just saying...
Oh yes, let's not forget the History Channel. Has anyone seen the recent "Life After People" series, based on some soap opera of fear and anxiety driven nail biter about HOW WE WILL BECOME EXTINCT and WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?
One little detail: I have not seen any black or brown actors playing in the series, so far. In short, the "we" that could be in danger of extinction are all white.

Any idea what's going on?
