For those of you who are unfamiliar with the potential candidates for the Bunning seat in the Senate, I wrote about them with links to their sites HERE. The republican primary candidates have been dueling each other to seem more pro-coal and less pro-Obama.
Now for the interesting part...
Bluegrass politics is reporting a new poll has been conducted to see what things look like for the state regarding this Senate race. If the election were held today, there would only be a 1% lead by the top running Republican (Rand Paul, according to the poll) against Daniel Mongiardo-D. From the piece by Bluegrass Politics...
...If the General Election were held today, the poll suggests the race would be tight: 43 percent said they’d vote for a Republican candidate while 42 percent said they’d choose a Democrat.
The automated phone surveys were conducted March 1-3. The Democratic primary poll has a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points. The Republican primary poll has a margin of error of 4.7 percentage points. The general election poll has a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points.
..
One percent! And the breakdowns...
DEMOCRATS
Mongiardo - 45
Conway - 27
Undecided - 19
Price - 4
Buckmaster - 3
Sweeney - 2
REPUBLICANS
Paul - 42
Grayson - 27
Undecided - 19
Johnson - 5
Martin - 3
Stephenson - 2
Scribner - 1
Let me say this, Mongiardo leans a bit conservative, and Conway would be better, but as many point out, ANYTHING would be better than these republicans.
Now, I have often heard from others when I talk about taking Kentucky back for the blue, that it is lost cause. One percent difference between the two is not a "lost cause". It is a weak spot in the GOP, and if Democrats take this seriously, we could take a seat right out from under them. This is not a lost cause, this is a cliff, and we don't need much rope. If the Senate democrats are smart, they will try for this, at least to force the GOP to have to go on the defensive, deplete some of those already draining coffers. And hopefully, we in Kentucky can send something better to the Senate, And hopefully the House as well.
So, help, contribute, volunteer, befriend them on Facebook. We need just a little push, and I think we can pull it off.
