Get Your Campaign Back Up To Full Speed Or Say Goodbye To Congress and Hello To Yet Another One Term Democratic President.
Democrats, consider these two suggestions.
First, wake up and smell the coffee. Whatever you are doing now is helping Republicans kick your collective asses and drive this country into an even deeper funk than George W. Bush left us in.
Second, very quickly study and learn from the presidencies of Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton.
Johnson started running for re-election the day Kennedy was killed. He began enacting legislation by arm-twisting and brow-beating congress and unabashedly campaigning to the media and public.
Clinton tripped up in his first year. But he learned from his mistakes and spent each remaining day of his first term charming the media, cajoling the public and out-dueling a powerful Republican majority.
This is NOT about what you think of Johnson or Clinton. It doesn't matter if you hate their guts or love them to pieces.
This is about how two Democratic presidents never stopped running for president. They ruthlessly used the office and its resources to push themselves and their agendas on the public and congress.
Why can't President Obama simply be president after he so handily won the presidency? It's simple. A Republican President can make idiotic mistakes and 50% of the American public will vote for them anyway. A Democratic President is is simply not granted this leeway.
So, for goodness sakes:
President Obama, you are easily the best campaigner in the past 100 years. Start proving it, again. David Axelrod and David Plouffe, you ran a wickedly smart campaign in 2008. Now, get off your butts and fire up every piece of political machinery that got you here in the first place.
Lyndon is gone, but his methods are well documented. Bill will be happy to come in and give some advice.
I suggest you take advantage of both. Today.
