Iraq hasn't been in the news much lately. Have you noticed? Please keep in mind that the U.S. still has soldiers in Iraq and in many other 'hotspots' all over the world.
More after the jump...
I worry about our soldiers more when they aren't in the news. Out of sight means out of mind, to many Americans. Not here at DK, of course. Around here there are daily reminders. The reminder that gets to me the most is IGTNT. But that is a conversation for another diary.
When NFTT was started, I really wondered how much help I could be. Honestly, there isn't a lot of green left at the end of any month. TexDem assured us that every single dollar would count. If enough of us would throw in a couple of bucks, it would add up quick. And it did!
This year, NFTT is giving us a couple of ways to donate. You can make a one time donation, or create a Personal/Team page for your own fundraising purposes(you can even name your own team).
The Personal/Team Page is what I want to talk about tonight. You can fundraise in your own community, and link to your own Personal Page directly. You can link it within the various online communities that you visit. We do ask that you don't fundraise on Daily Kos. DK is NFTT's home base. We will still be posting general fundraising diaries and updates regularly on here.
When you sign up for your Personal Page, you will receive a Fundraising Kit within 72 hours. The Fundraising Kit will include sample solicitation letters, how to order business cards, and tips for how to ask people to support your cause. This is a great way for us to multiply our personal donations quick!!
Use your imagination to raise funds. Last year we had a kossack and her daughters raise funds at a neighborhood event by selling lemonade. Ask your church, temple, synagogue etc. to assist you in your effort. Approach a small retailer about "putting up a jar". Have fun with it. Make up a flier to put on every car you see with a "Support Our Troups" magnet on it.
You can also make your sig. line your donation page link. Just be courteous and polite in whatever you do for NFTT. People love supporting the troops, so you don't need to be overly aggressive in soliciting for their benefit. Your actions reflect upon all of us.
Create A Personal/Team Page Now! Make a difference in our oversea Troops lives. Every single dollar will make a difference.
